The Professional Women's Task Force provides educational and networking opportunities for professional women from all career paths. It hosts speakers, including successful women executives, on subjects of interest to members and organizes social events such as cocktail receptions and guided tours. A word from PWTF Chair, Shari L. Segall:
As a famous American performer is known to say, "Can we talk?" (I.e., can we be honest with each other?) Many women come up to me at events or contact me via e-mail asking to be “part of” the Professional Women’s Task Force. I think it would be absolutely wonderful to have you on the Task Force! The reason I have in the past several years done everything more or less by myself (with, of course, the invaluable help of the Chamber’s Events Director, Vancheng Khou), is that when, years ago, we did have a Task Force in the form of a committee of women who held strategy meetings, many promises were made but not followed through with. This is very understandable when one is not being paid for one’s work. However, understandable or not, this did not get the job done.
What I’d love to see is a group of dedicated women who would provide ideas for speaker events and other types of events, find ways of contacting high-level potential speakers and, eventually, give birth to a Professional Women’s Newsletter and a “resource center” for newcomers looking for info on living and working in Paris (the last two ideas have been dreams of mine since the Professional Women’s Task Force was created in the mid-90s). What I don’t think would be a good idea is to call meetings where Task Force participants get together to discuss ideas and distribute tasks, as doing this by e-mail and phone would save all of us time that we basically just don’t have in the first place!
So, in light of this, next time we’re together at an event, please let me know how you think you can help the Professional Women’s Task Force to continue to thrive! That way, you can be a hugely welcome and appreciated part of the Task Force and contribute to its popularity and success!
My warm best to all and thanks so very much for your interest!
-Shari

Catherine Chouard's Exciting Presentation
On May 28, the Professional Women's and Human Resources Task Force hosted Catherine Chouard, member of the Collège du HALDE (Haute Authorité de Lutte Contre les Discrimiations et pour l'Egalité). Audience members have called her presentation "stirring, inspiring, energizing." Mme Chouard provided fascinating facts and figures about the fine work the HALDE has been doing since it was created a mere three and a half years ago. An extremely lively question and answer session followed, as did rousing applause for a riveting speaker.
